Tony was 11 years old when his father died. These were hard time for the family, Tony sold newspapers at the wedge in Baden. Several years later, he started working for Al Marklin at Marklin's Bakery in Baden, North Saint Louis City, Missouri.
He joined the U.S. Army during WWII and became a baker in the Army.
After returning from the war, he started working for Meyerhoffer's Bakery in North St Louis City, when they retired, he purchased their bakery. He spent the rest of his life in the bakery business. Over the years, he owned several donut ships in the St Louis area.
He married Evelyn Kamp on Feb 27, 1943, they were married 49 years until her death in 1992. They had two daughters, Gloria Jean (1948-2010) and Sharon Marie.
