Elsie M (Jackie) Ward
Elsie M. (Jackie) Ward, 87, passed away Nov. 30, 2011, at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin, Mo., following a lengthy illness.
Elsie was born July 31, 1924, near Jasper, Mo., the daughter of W.D. (Jack) and Catherine Wilson.
She was a graduate of Jasper High School, class of 1942.
Elsie and her late husband, Harry were longtime Jasper County business owners and civic leaders. They operated a commercial printing business and several weekly newspapers, including The Jasper County News and The Sarcoxie Record.
Elsie served as a house mom for Alpha Gamma Sigma, University of Missouri, Columbia, for several years.
She was also an assistant to several real estate companies in Columbia, before her retirement.
Elsie is survived by her two sons and their wives, Dick Ward and Elizabeth Healy, Mission Hills, Kan., and Steve and Maribeth Ward, rural Jasper; two sisters, Eleanor Miller, Whittier, Calif., and Jane and Preston Beard, Kenilworth, Ill.; two step granddaughters, Erin Boyer and husband, Kevin and Kate Kraft and husband, Johnny; two step great-grandchildren, Zachery and Ellie Boyer, all of the Kansas City area; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Harry N. Ward; a daughter, Kimberly; one sister, Carol Hackett; and one brother, S.H. (Jack) Wilson.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Paradise Cemetery, just south of Jasper.
Rev. Charles Burnett will officiate.
The casket will be closed at all times.
In lieu of flowers Elsie requested that memorial contributions go to AGS Scholarship Fund, Alpha Gamma Sigma, 503 East Nifong, Box 182, Columbia, MO 65201 Or in care of Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper.
Services are under the direction and care of Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper.
