He made his Major League debut for the Cubs on April 24th 1907. He appeared in 5 games as a pitcher that season, going 0-1 with a save, pitching in 5 games total. He also played the outfield in 5 other contests. Durbin was rather smallish, being only 5' 8" tall and weighing 155 pounds, hence, he was not really given a fair chance to play at the big league level full time. After one more season with the Cubs in which he batted only .250 over 14 games, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds with Tom Downey for John Kane on January 18, 1909. After appearing in only 14 games, he was again traded, this time Pittsburgh in exchange for Ward Miller and cash on May 28, 1909. 1909 proved to be his last year in the Majors. After a few years of Minor League ball he retired. After his career he married and became a baker in a restaurant. He died from a coronary thrombosis 1 day after his 57th birthday. During his career, he accrued a .275 lifetime average with 2 walks and a double in 32 Major League Games. (bio by: Frank Russo)
