Thomas Cadell
Birth: Sep. 5, 1835
Death: Apr. 6, 1919

Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Cockenzie, Scotland, he served as a Lieutenant in the 2nd Bengal Fusiliers, British Army. During the Siege of Delhi, India, on June 12, 1857, Lieutenant Cadell rescued a wounded bugler while under severe fire. Later that same day, when the Fusiliers were retiring, he went back of his own accompanied by three men and brought in a severely wounded man under heavy fire from the advancing enemy. For prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on April 29, 1862. He later achieved the rank of Colonel, served as Chief Commissioner of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, (1878-92) and was also made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He died at age 83 in Tranent, Scotland. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
