Jannie Virginia Miller Scott, 87, of Ririe, died Thursday, 31 March 2005, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls due to complications from pneumonia. She was born in New Franklin, Howard, Missouri, on 7 July 1917 the fifth of thirteen children of John Franklin and Minnie Lee Shipley Miller. Her early years were spent on the Missouri River Bottoms where her father farmed. She attended schools in Fayette, Glasgow, Salisbury, Roanoke and Armstrong, Missouri. When she was seventeen, the family left Missouri and moved to Ririe. On the day they arrived in Ririe, she first met Rudger DuWayne Scott and on 27 September 1937 they were married at Clark, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized 20 March 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Ririe and Grand Valley (Indian Creek – Palisade) for a year and then settled in Ririe while DuWayne worked for Kraft Foods. They purchased their first farm north of Ririe in 1941. She and her husband farmed together on farms in the Ririe and Swan Valley areas with a dairy and registered Hereford cattle operation until his death on 6 April 1997. It was common to see her in the dairy barn or driving the tractor and baler during haying season. They spent several summers together on the ranch on Fall Creek. She enjoyed many outings and activities with her family. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society positions from the time she joined the Church in 1936. During the last several years, she made many quilts and several hundred clothing articles for LDS Humanitarian Services. She delivered many directly to the Sort Center in Salt Lake and was always taking articles to the Humanitarian Services room at Deseret Industries in Idaho Falls. She was an excellent seamstress and has spent many hours at her sewing machine. All of her grandchildren have something that Grandma has sewn, quilted or crocheted for them. Survivors include two sons, Larry D. (Karen) Scott and R. Gene (Jan) Scott: two daughters, Jeanette V. Barnes and LuWayne (John) Nelson all of Ririe: three sisters, Hazel Belle Rodgers, 96, of Salisbury, Missouri, Alice Louise Parkinson of Sugar City, Bettie Jean (Bill) Yarwood of Tacoma, Washington; five brothers, Gordon Lee Miller, 93, of Preston, Idaho, David Edward (Shirley) Miller of Temple, Texas, Walter Leon Miller of Salt Lake City, Utah, Thomas Alvin (Vada) Miller of Plain City, Utah, Charles Raymond (Yvonne) Miller of Irwin, Idaho, her husband's sister and good friend, Alice Ricks of Ririe, 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Eva Mae Long, and three brothers, John Franklin Miller Junior, William Henry Miller, Dale Allen Miller, a grandson, Robert Lynn Barnes and a son-in-law, Robert Thomas Barnes. Funeral services will be Monday 4 April, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ririe LDS Stake Center, 14061 N. 130 E. in Ririe, with Bishop Robert Johnson officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
