George Wilson
Birth: Apr. 29, 1886
Death: Apr. 22, 1926

World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he served as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, British Army. On September 14, 1914, during the main Battle of the Aisne, Verneuill, France, Private Wilson went forward with a rifleman to try to locate a German machine-gun which was holding up the advance. When the rifleman was killed, Private Wilson went on alone and when he reached the target shot six of the enemy, bayoneted the officer and then captured the gun. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross from King George V on December 3, 1914. He died of tuberculosis at 39 in a hospital at Edinburgh, Scotland. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
