Death of Mrs. Sophia Oyler
At Clark's Hill, Tippecanoe county, August 12th, 1881, Sophia Oyler, widow of Samuel Oyler, late of Clark's Hill. Funeral services on the 14th inst, at home of Henry Lindsay, son-in-law of the deceased, conducted by Rev. Mary T. Clark of the Universalist Church.
Sophia Rabson, was born in the town of Ticehurst, county of Sussex, England, on the 22d of December, 1792. She was baptized in the Episcopal church. In July, 1814, she married Samuel Oyler and in 1839 they emigrated, bringing with them to America six children, two boys and four girls. Her husband and son passed over to the world of spirit before.
Mrs. Oyler was well respected by all who knew her. She was a gentle, loving, patient woman, a fond, indulgent mother. The testimony of one of her daughters was: "I never heard one impatient word out of my mother's mouth." Her children and many of her grandchildren gathered round at the last. One of her daughters who resides in New York State was unavoidably absent. Her only son, Col. Oyler, had just started on a trip to New York, and could not be recalled in time for the end. Active and energetic during her long life, she held her own to the very last, helping in the family as late as Tuesday, 9 h, only four days before her death. She leaves behind her five children, twenty-five grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren.
