Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on August 27 1862 at the age of 44 in 172nd New York Infantry Regiment. Transferred on December 04 1862 into Company L, 6th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment. Transferred on October 11 1864 into 4th Company , 2nd Battalion Regiment Reserve Corp.

Appears on 1890 Veterans Census Schedule Cold Springs and Nelsonville, Putnam County, New York.
Refers to his service in 6th N.Y. H.A. as noted above.
Noted under disability is "Wounded in left leg" States his service from August 21,1862 to July 9,1864.

Civil War pension records show Luke Higgins received an invalid's pension (Application # 361497 & Certificate # 234882) on April 14,1880 for his service in Company "L" 6th New York Heavy Artillery (other service noted is 2nd Company 4th Battalion Veterans Reserve Corp.) . This record only gives the year of death as 1908.
