Mrs Jacob E Rath was born Emma Effie Henrietta Karnatz, May 28, 1877 at Harrison, Jewell County, Kansas. She died June 29, 1964, in the Cheyenne County Hospital at St Francis, Kan. Her parents were Frederick and Maria Karnatz.
Mrs Rath was baptized July 22, 1877 and at the time of her death she was a member of the St Francis Methodist Church.
She came with her parents to Cheyenne County in 1886. They lived on a farm northwest of St Francis. On November 28, 1898 she was united in marriage to Jacob E Rath at guide Rock, Neb. They made their home on a farm northwest of St Francis.
Mr Rath passed away in 1948 and in 1961 Mrs Rath moved to St Francis, where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by two children; Mrs Elsie Overholser who passed away in 1955 and a son who died in infancy.
She leaves many survivors; Three daughters; Mrs Elizabeth Rose, Rushville, Ill; Mrs Anna Stevens and Mrs Luella Hollman both of Denver, Colo.,; two sons, Edward of Denver and Lloyd of St Francis; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church, July 1, Rev H Ralph Watkins of Bird City was in charge of the service.
Interment was in St Francis Cemetery.
