J. Waller Callison, Jr., 76, of Greenville passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 26, 2011 at his residence.
Born September 11, 1935 in Staunton, he was the son of the late James Waller and Tomlin (Braxton) Callison.
Mr. Callison was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was owner and operator of a cattle farming business for 55 years, Summerdean Farms. Waller was a well-known businessman having retired as Vice President of Callison & Co. Real Estate and Insurance after 16 years of service, retiring after 13 years of service as Vice President of Staunton Insurance Agency and then he served for three years as Manager at the Insurance Partners of Virginia. He served as a founding director for Frontier Community Bank. He was a long time member of the Augusta County Board of Zoning Appeals and a past board member for the Shenandoah Presbytery Corporation. As all those who knew Waller are aware, he had an intense passion for driving the roads. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes (Callison) Carstarphen.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Callison; children, Susan (Susie) Greer and husband Tim of Perry, GA, James W., III (Jimmy) and wife Debra of Staunton and R. Scott Callison of New York City, NY; grandchildren, Mitch Greer and wife Shelley, Kyle Greer, Jennifer Callison, R. Scott Callison, Jr., Marshall T. Callison and Clayton A. Callison; great-granddaughter, Ansley Claire Greer.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with Rev. Clifford D. Caldwell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church fellowship hall.
