Helen Marguerite Kent, the daughter of Charles A and Esther (Peterson) Schultz was born February 16, 1912 on a farm southeast of Red Cloud, Nebraska. She departed this life on Saturday, January 7, 1995 at the Webster County Hospital in Red Cloud at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 24 days.

Helen moved with her parents to Red Cloud at the age of two and attended the Red Cloud schools, graduating salutatorian of her senior class in the spring of 1930. She married Kenneth Kent on December 1, 1934. Helen graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in February 1938. After residing for a time in Red Cloud they lived in several Nebraska towns including five years in Bridgeport and eighteen years in Lincoln, two years in Port Hueneme, California and eight years in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Upon Kenneth's retirement in 1974, they returned to Red Cloud where she resided until her death.

Most of her working years were in the comptroller's office of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Maryland in College Park.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Kenneth of Red Cloud; a son Dr Douglas Kent and wife Margaret of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Karen Kent of Stillwater and David Kent and wife Debra of Shawnee, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren; Jessica O'Daniel of Stillwater and Cody Winters and Katelyn Kent of Shawnee, Oklahoma; a brother Dr C Bertrand Schultz of Lincoln, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud for fifty-two years. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapters in Red Cloud, Bridgeport and Lincoln, Nebraska and Washington, D.C., the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Gamma Phi Beta National sorority.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 1995 from the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev Dennis R Linton-Hendrick officiating. The congregational hymns were "Abide With Me" and "How Great thou Art" with Betty Rasser, organist. The honorary casket bearers were Harry Obitz, Vernon Krueger, Vernon Hasselbacher, Carl Ware and Cecil Yost. The casketberers were Kenneth Schwartz, Jim Zimmerman, Stan Offner, Dale Engstrom, Clifford Caldwell and Bob Beardslee. Interment was in Red Cloud Cemetery with the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud in charge of the arrangements.
