Iris Irene Jelinek Jan. 29, 1927 - April 30, 2008 Iris Irene Jelinek entered into rest on April 30, 2008, in Sultan, WA, at the age of 81 years. She was born on January 29, 1927 in Duvall, WA, to Benjamin Franklin Hart and Marie (Fish) Hart. She attended Duvall Grade School through eighth grade and graduated from Sultan High School in 1945. Iris met Victor Jelinek while working at the Savoy Restaurant in Monroe and they were married on February 14, 1945 while he was home on leave from the Army. She lived most of her life in Monroe, WA, except for several years in the Smokey Point, WA, area where she ran a cafe. Iris worked most of her life as a waitress and cook. She was a member of Cascade Eagles 2327 Auxiliary for more than 50 years and served as Madam President twice. She was an accomplished seamstress and completed her first quilt in her later years while living in Port Angeles, WA. Iris was a devoted and loyal fan of all sports teams, especially the Washington State Cougars. She loved the Cougs, win or lose. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor in 1975, after 30 years of marriage. Her son, Victor, Jr. died in 1991. In addition, she was predeceased by a sister and two brothers. Survivors include her children, Joy and Ed Rutherford, of Port Angeles, Rodney and Suzan Jelinek, of Snohomish, WA, Leslie and Earl Munn, of Buckley, WA, and Brien and Kimberley Jelinek, of Fredericksburg, VA; sister, Josephine Andersen, of Napavine, WA; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Steve and Becky Dirlam for their loving care for the past three years at Love's Hill Adult Family Home. The Hospice team from Providence Home Care and Hospice was also wonderful to her. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., on May 17, 2008, at IOOF cemetery in Monroe, WA. A potluck reception will follow immediately at the home of Rodney Jelinek, 4424 144th DR SW, Snohomish, WA. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Iris's name to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore, Suite 500, Everett, WA, 98201, or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Affordable Burial & Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon, Washington (360)424-1002.
