Alan Jerrard
Birth: Dec. 3, 1897
Death: May 14, 1968

World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Flight Officer in the 86 Squadron, of the Royal Flying Corps. While on air patrol in a SPAD VII with two fellow officers at the Italian Front, March 30, 1918, Flight-Lieutenant Jerrard downed one of five Austro-Hungarian Albatross aircraft. Flying at a low altitude, he proceeded to bomb the aerodrome at Mansue destroying aircraft that was landing and attempting to take off. Under heavy fire from the Austro-Hungarian he rushed to the aid of fellow pilot destroying another enemy aircraft. He finally retreated but was shot down and managed to escape from Austro-Hungarian captivity. For this action, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and promoted Flight-Lieutenant. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
