Dorothy (nee McNamara) Schovanez, DSN 1435, was originally hired as a civilian clerk on January 12, 1948, and worked directly for the Board of Police Commissioners. On July 26, 1954, she received her commission as a police officer and entered the academy. Upon completing her training, she held the following assignments throughout her career. They were the Juvenile Division, 3rd, Prisoner Processing, 4th, Fugitive Section, Correspondence Investigative Division (C.I.D.), and finally the 8th District. When Officer Schovanez retired on September 27, 1979, she had completed 30 years, 9 months, and 11 days of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer Schovanez died at home on 12/18/1996 of uterine cancer.

The wake and funeral were held at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons, located at 7027 Gravois, with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Officer Francis Schovanez.
