Jose Diaz's mysterious death is commonly known as the Sleepy Lagoon Murder. His death sparked a huge trial in Los Angeles in which hundreds of Mexican-Americans were unjustly arrested. A riot between American servicemen and Mexican-American citizens broke out several months after the Diaz death. Numerous movies have been made and many books have been written about the incident.
