| Birth: | 1822 | | Death: | Aug. 9, 1888 |  Crimean War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private in the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade, British Army. In actions at the Quarries, Crimea, in July 1955, when a bandsman going to fetch water was killed Private McGregor rushed to drive the Russian riflemen from the pits which they occupied. In later actions, Private McGregor and two others were the first to reach the Russians, whom they drove out, killing some. He was also was employed as a sharpshooter in the advance trenches at Sebastopol, crossed an open space under fire and dislodged two Russians who were occupying a rifle pit. For extreme gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
