| Birth: | May 3, 1821 | | Death: | Dec. 1, 1872 |  Crimea War British Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant Major in the 2nd Dragoons, Royal Scot Greys. On October 25, 1854, in a Heavy Cavalry charge at Balaclava, Crimea, his lead officer was surrounded by Russian cavalry and in great danger. Sergeant Major Grieve rode up to his rescue, cutting off the head of one Russian and dispersing the others. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in December 1854 and later achieved the rank of Lieutenant. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
