Woodrow G. Mitchell
Woodrow Glasby Mitchell, age 88, of Joplin, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at his home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Spurgeon, Mo., and was a lifelong resident of the Joplin area.
He worked in the Vingar Hill Barr Mine in Pitcher, Okla. until 1949.
He then went to school and became a journeyman plumber and pipe fitter, retiring in 1976.
His hobbies were gardening and cutting wood.
Woodrow pastored Hornet Pentecostal Church for over 15 years, and was currently attending Lone Elm Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, (married July 6, 1934) Catherine Webb Mitchell, of the home; two daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Douffet, of Galena, Kan., and Wanda Lou Mitchell and husband, Mark Soares, of Oahu, Hawaii; two sons, A.C. "Sam" Mitchell and wife, Cindee, of rural Seneca, and Phillip Mitchell and wife, Kay, of Battlefield, Mo.; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lily May Glasby Mitchell, two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at 2 p.m., in Parker Mortuary Chapel, officiated by Rev. J.C. "Bud" Walker and Rev. Sam Mitchell.
Interment will follow in Hornet Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
