Joseph Cone was born May 17, 1772 in North Carolina to Revolutionary War hero, Captain William Henry Cone, and Keziah Eudel Barber Cone. With his parents and siblings, he moved to South Carolina and then to Georgia, first to Effingham County and then to Bulloch County. He had eight siblings.
On February 17, 1796 in Bulloch County, he married Mary Elizabeth Stewart Cone, from Scotland, and they had seven children: Matilda Cone, Susan Cone, James D. Cone, Hannah B. Cone Perkins Stafford, John Barber Cone, Keziah Cone Walker, and Joseph Cone. About 1801 Joseph and his family moved to Glynn County. This land became a part of Camden County in 1805. The Cone family lived in that part of Camden County that became Charlton County. For a brief period they lived in Houston County. Joseph and his family moved to Thomas County, Georgia about 1826, about five years after the formation of Thomas County. Joseph and Mary settled on Aucilla Creek, probably on Land Lot 227 in Land District 13, near present-day Boston, Georgia, where he bought timbered land and improved a farm. Joseph was a farmer who dabbled in real estate sales. He established the Cone Family Cemetery on neighboring Land Lot 234.
On April 13, 1839 Joseph died and was buried in the family cemetery.
