Hubert Lawrence "Hubie" Oelker, age 73, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, died Sunday, May 30, 2010.
He was born on Wednesday, June 3, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Elmer William and Mary Margaret (Armbruster) Oelker.
He was involved in sports in High School. He was on the Lawrenceburg High School Football Team and also ran long distance on the track team. He served as class president his senior year.
Hubie served his country in the US Navy from January 27, 1955 until January 21, 1959.
His hobbies included gardening and he loved the outdoors.
He was a life-long member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lawrenceburg American Legion, Post # 239, Lawrenceburg Eagles, Aerie 2018. He worked for United Telephone Systems for 39 years as a central office technician. He was a member of Fire Engine Company # 3 for over 35 years and was past Fire Chief of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department from 1980-1984.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marilyn Oelker; 2 sons, David Oelker and Michael "Hubie" (wife Theresa) Oelker; 2 brothers, Clifford (wife Rita) Oelker; Maurice (Elizabeth "Betty") Oelker; sister, Johanna Jarvis; and granddaughter, Lucii Oelker and her fiancÚ Alex Diem.
Friends will be received Friday, June 4, 2010 from 9am to 11am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Friday June 4, 2010 at 11am with Fr. Peter Gallagher officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greendale Cemetery, Greendale, Indiana.
Contributions may be made to the Lawrenceburg Life Squad. A luncheon will be held at the Lawrenceburg American Legion immediately following the graveside service, all family and friends are invited.
