| Birth: | Jan. 22, 1892 | | Death: | May 4, 1958 |  World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Lance Sergeant in the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards. In actions near Ginchy, France, on September 15, 1916, Lance Sergeant McNess led his men in the face of heavy German shell and machine-gun fire. When the first line of the enemy trenches was reached, it was found that the left flank was exposed and that the enemy were bombing down the trench. He led a counter-attack, although he was very severely wounded, he continued encouraging his men and throwing bombs until exhausted by loss of blood. For leadership and courage under enemy fire, he was promoted Sergeant and awarded the Victoria Cross Medal. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
