60th Wedding Anniversary announcement appeared in the Unterrified Democrat, Aug 29, 2007 edition. They were attended by Norma Jean Vaughan, LaVerne Fechtel and the late Virgil Schmitz, Dorothy Schmitz, Elmer Grafe and Geraldine Eveler.

GRAFE Raymond Henry Grafe, 84, of Westphalia, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Westphalia Retirement Center. He was born March 12, 1924, in Koeltztown, the son of Leo and Teresa Reinsch Grafe. He attended Meta Public School. On August 26, 1947, Ray was united in marriage in Westphalia to Carmelita L. Schmitz, who survives at the home. The evening before his passing, Ray and his wife celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary with family. Ray was self employed as a trucker for 8 years. He was a tire salesman for Eagan Tire Service for 20 years. He also worked for Loethen Oil for 12 years until his retirement. After retirement, he was a part-time groundskeeper for Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Westphalia. He was an avid gardener who prided himself in growing tomatoes, especially the first and largest home grown German tomato in Westphalia. Ray was also a musician who enjoyed playing the fiddle. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia and the Men's Sodality. He was a life member of the Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council 1171, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 and the AARP. Ray also served as a board member of the Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department for several years and served on the Westphalia City Council for 15 years. Other survivors include four daughters, Sharon Allen of Jefferson City, Phyllis Plassmeyer and husband Ron of Westphalia, Nancy Struemph and husband Gary of Jefferson City, Pamela Knoll and husband Mike of Westphalia; one sister, Norma Jean Vaughan and husband Harold of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren, Spencer Allen and wife Christy, Casey Allen and wife Anita, Matt Plassmeyer and wife Kathy, C.J. Plassmeyer, Toni Struemph Miller and husband Marty, Kelly Struemph, Alex Knoll; and five great grandchildren, Paige Allen, Bryce Allen, Chase Plassmeyer, Kaitlyn Plassmeyer, and Miles Miller. He was preceded in death by one son, D. Joseph Grafe on September 13, 1960; a brother, Elmer Grafe; a sister, Geraldine Eveler; and a great granddaughter, Makayla Plassmeyer. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Westphalia, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Fr. Philip M. Kane officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of HILKE-MILLARD Funeral Home, 101 Linn St., Westphalia, MO, (573) 455-2424.
