Calvin Michael "Mickey" Davenport Jr.
DAVENPORT, JR. C.M. "Mickey" Davenport, Jr. age 74, of Vancleave entered His Heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011. He was born August. 14, 1937 in Hattiesburg to Calvin and Nancy Eure Davenport and moved with his family at a young age to Pascagoula. Mickey graduated from Pascagoula High school in 1955 where he excelled and lettered in the sports of Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He attended Perkinston Community College where he was involved with Football and Baseball programs. He received his B.S. Degree from The University of Southern Mississippi in Industrial Vocational Education. Through the years, he coached Youth Basketball, Baseball, and Football as well as Men's Softball. Mickey was employed at Ingalls Shipbuilding for 40 years and retired as the Manager of Employment and Training. During his career at Ingalls, he was appointed by Gov. Kirk Fordice to serve on and be Chairman of the State Advisory Council for Vocational Education. Also, Gov. Fordice appointed him to serve as a member of the State Job Training Coordinating Council. He served on and was Chairman of The Private Industry Council and the winner of the Workforce Partnership Award for Ingalls. He also served on the Board of Directors for Business Service Corp. He was a member of Southern States Apprenticeship Conference, where he served on the steering committee and coordinator for its conferences. He was awarded the Stantiago Award for his service to them. Mickey was chairman of the Mississippi Manufacturer's Association Committee and served on the committee for Ingalls Credit Union for many years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Vancleave and knew Jesus Christ as his Savior. His Sunday School Class and their teacher, Keith Coward, were very special to him.
He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Katherine Lee Davenport; parents; brother, Billy Davenport, and his father-in-law, Hugh T. Smith that was very special to him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanette Smith Davenport; daughter, Connie Vance (Larry), Madison, MS; son, Don Davenport (Vicki), Gulfport; grandsons, Jared Shore and Collin Davenport; granddaughter, Olivia Grace Davenport; sister, Sissy Shumate; four brothers, Bobby, Greg, Steve, and Tommy Davenport.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, 12:00-2:00pm, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev.
