Angela was born in Borger, Texas, the daughter of Gerald and Minnie Tyson. She graduated from Borger High School in 1987. She was a member of Keeler Baptist Church. She was a junior music performance major at the Eastern University of New Mexico, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, the Chamber Chorale, and Take V. She was the director of fraternity education for ZTA , and was on the Dean's Honor Roll. She was also a recipient of the Lone Star Academic and Music Scholarship. While a contestant for the Miss Portales Scholarship Pageant in Portales, N.M., her talent was singing the gospel song, "Upon This Rock." She was selected as a member of the Outstanding College Students of America, and was listed in the 1988 Outstanding College Students of America Directory. Angela passed away when she was murdered by Miguel Flores, who kidnapped her from the local video store at which she worked. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Tyson of Borger; a brother, David Tyson of Amarillo; her grandmothers, Mrs. Marie Anderson of Borger and Mrs. Eunice Tyson of Stinnett; several aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held at Keeler Baptist Church with Rev. Wyatt Carpenter, pastor, officiating. Memorials may be sent to the Friends of the Easter Foundation in memory of Angela Tyson, which is a scholarship fund at Eastern New Mexico University.
Note: Flores was executed for her murder by lethal injection on November 9, 2000, in Huntsville, Texas.
