William Anderson Routh, son of Jonathan Routh and his first wife, Catherine Barringer was born in Tennessee. His mother died and as a young man, he and his siblings by his deceased mother, migrated with his father to Fannin County, Texas. William's first wife, Margaret G. Benge Routh, had four children, a twin, only lived four months.
1860 TEXAS CENSUS, Fannin County, Bonham P.O., July 31, p. 168 - ROUTH, W. A., head, age 32, clerk, $10000/600, born Tn; M. G., wife, age 31, k. house; Alf P., son, age 5; Nancy I., dau, age 3; William E., son, age 4/12.
William's first wife died in 1863, during the Civil War. After the war, he married his second wife, Margaret Elizabeth Carter Routh.

ROUTH, William A., head, age 42, farmer, $2000/300, born Tn; Margaret E., wife, age 30, k. house; Alfred P., son, age 15; Nancy I., dau, age 13; William E., son, age 10; Catherine J. dau, age 3; Martha A., dau, age 1.
Two more children born after 1870, youngest died 1874. Williams's second wife died the same year.
William Anderson was married to his third wife, Sarah Elizabeth Thompson, when the 1880 federal census was enumerated.

William and Sarah had three children, youngest born and died 1884..
William and family migrated to Brown County and settled in the Bethel area near Blanket where his third wife died in 1894.

In his later years, William Anderson Routh lived with his oldest son, Alfred Pace Routh and wife, Sadie, in Blanket, Brown County,Texas.
