Her maiden name was Carrie Loella Baker. She was married February 18, 1888 to James C. Folks. To this Union was born nine children, seven of whom survive the mother as follows: Mrs. J. S Parker Omaha, T. J. Folks Long Beach California, Mrs. Frank Hamilton Lemars, Iowa, Mrs. Paul Draper Dalton Nebraska, Opal and Paul K. and Gordon J. Folks. These with the husband, and her mother, Mrs. Betsy Baker, three sisters and four brothers are left to mourn her great loss. All the children except the two youngest were present at the funeral.
For a number of years she was a resident of this community, and of Merry Precenct [sic] and,the large number of people who attended the funeral from both places attest, the high esteem in which she was held. She was a splendid woman, and a good neighbor, mother and wife.
The funeral was held Sunday at the Pender M. E. Church and was largely attended. Reverend Fowler, the pastor officiated. Internment [sic] in the Pender cemetery.
Those present from a distance were: John Baker and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tuller and family, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Tranmer, John Tranmer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ruhe, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Valder, Mr. and Mrs. Valder, Oscar, Valder, Mr. and Mrs. Mayer, Mrs. Nellie Swanson, Mr. Chas. Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weaver, Mr. and Mrs. John Tobin, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Art Baker, Mr. and Mrs. T. Gamble, all of Bertha, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Valder, and James Curtis of Lyons. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Block and family of Winnebago. Mr. and Mrs. G. Harvey and family, of Bancroft. Mrs. Nacita DeLate [sic] Lucerne, Minn.
