| Birth: | 1840 | | Death: | Jun. 26, 1863, USA | Civil War Confederate Army Officer. A Lieutenant in the Confederate Army, he was involved with General Nathan Bedford Forrest in a bizarre incident. Angered over a demotion and transfer he felt were unjustified, he confronted General Forrest at his headquarters. After exchanging heated words, he pulled a gun and shot Forrest. Forrest then charged him, grabbed the gun as he opened a pocket knife with his teeth, and stabbed the soldier. Forrest, who recovered from his wound and returned to battle, reportedly felt some regret over his actions, and ordered the best of care for Gould. However, the soldier died of his injuries two weeks after the confrontation. The incident became known by many as "The Forrest-Gould Affair." (bio by: Evening Blues)
