Death: Sep. 3, 1906

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company H, 106th Illinois Infantry for action on December 23, 1862 near Jackson, Tennessee. His citation reads "When his command was surrounded by a greatly superior force, voluntarily left the shelter of the breastworks, crossed an open railway trestle under a concentrated fire from the enemy, made his way out, and secured reinforcements for the relief of his command." (bio by: Don Morfe)
