Warren Gard
Birth: Jul. 2, 1873
Death: Nov. 1, 1929

US Congressman. Born in Hamilton, Ohio, he attended the common schools and graduated from the Cincinnati Law School in 1894. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar Association that same year and commenced to practice as an attorney in Hamilton. He became the prosecuting attorney of Butler County, Ohio from 1894 to 1903. He then entered into a private practice until he was elected as Judge of the Butler County Court of Common Pleas in 1907 and served until 1912. He resigned when he was elected as a Democrat to represent Ohio's 3rd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, where he served four terms from 1913 to 1921 and was a member of the House Judiciary Committee. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1920 and lost his bid for election to Congress again in 1922 because he opposed prohibition. Gard resumed his legal practice and was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1924. He died in Hamilton in 1929 when he was 56 years old. His father, Samuel Zearly Gard, was one of the prosecutors in the Clement Vallandigham murder case where Vallandigham accidentally shot himself to death while making a demonstration to the court. (bio by: K Guy)
