In 1873, together with James Armitage, he created the Herschell Armitage Company which carved many portable carousels. He formed his own company in 1901, which made more elaborate carousels with many types of animals. Herschell specialized in horses with rigid poses and portable machines, which were shipped easily between towns all over the United States and Canada. His company became a main stay for carnivals and amuesment parks through out the world for most of the 20th Century. In 1983, the Allan Herschell Carousel Museum was opened in North Tonawanda, New York, with many of his creations including a full operational carousel from 1916. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
