| Birth: | 1369 | | Death: | Jul. 4, 1394 | English nobility. A wealthy heiress and daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and Joan FitzAlan. She married Henry Bolingbroke, the future King Henry IV, on July 27, 1380 at Arundel Castle. She was 12, Henry was 14. The marriage brought to Henry great estates and the title Duke of Hereford. Henry's uncle, Thomas Woodstock, tried to prevent the marriage, hoping to put Mary in a convent in an effort to gain control of her vast wealth and Welsh estates. It is said the couple shared a love of music and playing chess. Mary had seven children, including the future Henry V. She died at Peterborough Castle while giving birth to her daughter Philippa.
