Author. While working in the Library of Congress, he began a lifelong dedication to the history of George Washington. In 1933, he published the biography "George Washington Himself." He compiled and edited many other publications about the First President, including 39 of the 40 volume collection "Writings of Washington." He appointed the head the George Washington Bicentennial Commission in 1932.
