From age 12 he was raised on a farm near Springfield, Ohio, and initially worked in the railroad and dairy industries. In 1923 his legs were paralyzed in a farming accident and he was confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Aleshire operated a gas station and a grocery store in Springfield before winning election as a Democrat to the US House of Representatives; he represented Ohio's 7th District from January 3, 1937 to January 3, 1939. He was defeated for a second term in 1938 and afterwards returned to Springfield, where he died at 40. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
