He appeared in 44 games as an outfielder for the Seattle Mariners during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He was signed as an amateur free agent in 2004 at the age of 17, and made his major league debut on September 23, 2010 against the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a member of the Dutch national team that won the 2007 European Championship, and represented the Netherlands in the 2009 World Baseball Championship. He was expected to compete for a starting job for the Mariners during the upcoming 2012 major league season, and was considered one of baseball's top 100 prospects. He ended his career with the Mariners with a lifetime .207 batting average, 9 runs batted in and two home runs.
