William Pitts Bennett was the son of George W. Bennett and Nancy Rosalie Williams. Was in the civil war fighting for the South. William enlisted at age 30 in Van Buren County Arkansas. He is listed as being 5 foot 10 inches tall, eyes hazel, hair dark, complexion dark, born in Tennessee. He was captured during the war and released June 5, 1865 at Jacksonport Arkansas. He was in Company H. 36th Arkansas Inf.
