Religious Leader. First Episcopal Bishop of Tennessee. Helped to establish the University of the South at Sewanee, where he was the first chancellor. With the help of Leonidas Polk, he established the school for girls called the "Columbia Institute." He also published a book of religious writings and sermons called "Otey's Journal."
