James Boatman was born near Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, June 6, 1831, and departed this life at his home near Beattie, Kas., May 5, 1914, aged eighty-two years and eleven months.
When but a boy he removed with his parents to Dearborn county, Ind., where he grew to manhood. At the age of twenty-seven he was united in marriage to Ann Cook. To whom this union were born two sons and two daughters, one son and one daughter having preceded him to the better land.
He leaves to mourn his wife, one son and one daughter,three brothers, two sisters and a host of friends.
He was converted at an early age and united with the M.E. church to which he remained a faithful member until his death. He led in prayer at the family altar the morning before the Lord called him to join the chorus of the angels' praise around the throne. His last words were, "O Jesus, take me."
Mr. Boatman went to Kansas in the fall of 1878 and moved on the farm on which he lived at the time of his death.
