US Congressman. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, first in Company G, 28th Louisiana Infantry, the as a Sergeant in Company G, 22nd Louisiana Heavy Artillery. After serving in the Louisiana State Senate from 1880 to 1890, and as Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana from 1900 to 1904, he was elected as a Democrat to represent Louisiana's 1st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1908 until his death in 1919.
