U.S. Congressman. At the time, he was a Major General of South Carolina State militia, when he studied law, was admitted to the bar and started practicing law in Union County. He also engaged in agricultural pursuits and was a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives, (1846-47). In 1848, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James A. Black, was reelected to the Thirty-first and Thirty-second Congresses, serving until 1853. After his term, he resumed agricultural pursuits until his death at age 58. His son was Confederate Brigadier General William Henry Wallace during the Civil War and later a South Carolina legislator. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
