Victor David Matson was the second son, and fourth of seven children born to August Matson (1868-1950) and his wife Augusta Olivia Brand (1870-1938). Victor was born on his parents farm near Lafayette, Illinois. The family moved to a large farm near Kiester, Minnesota in 1913.
Victor's parents had both been born in Sweden, and came to America as teenagers in the 1880s. His paternal grandmother was Mrs. Anna Matilda Matson (1828-1908, who also came to America as a widow.) His maternal grandparents were Johan August Brand (1842-1926) and his wife Johanna Vilhelmina Lund (1846-1925), who remained in Sweden.
Victor married Martha Arvilla Donhogh-Kissell (1912-2000). She was a daughter of Martin P. Donhough & his wife Anne Helen Abrahamson, and had been adopted by her stepfather John Kissell.
Victor and Martha lived in Calfornia, where Victor worked for Walt Disney & Co., building props and sets for films. They had two daughters, Lola L. Matson and Beryl Matson.
