US Governor. US Congressman. Rencher was a U.S. Representative from North Carolina from 1829 to 1839 and 1841 to 1843. He was a U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Portugal from 1844 to 1847. In 1857, he was appointed as the Governor of New Mexico, serving until 1861.
