"Vard Jackson was a man of many talents," my father would say. He was the son of John Wright Jackson and Hallie Hunt. He was born in a small community north of Dallas, Texas called Bloomfield (now under water for a manmade lake). By 1900 his parents divorced and his mother headed west to Arizona and Nevada and his father north to Oklahoma. At first he went with his mother and then headed to Oklahoma shortly afterwards. For quite some time he resided with his father in Bryan County, Oklahoma before meeting and marrying Alma Lagusta Pope, from Arkansas. He then resided in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he worked for the Fresno Railroad company for many years. Shortly after the start of the depression he moved his family to Fayetteville, Arkansas. Ten years later he relocated once more to Lewiston, Idaho. In 1943 he went down to Portland, Oregon to work for the Portland Naval shipyards. Unfortunately he caught pneumonia and passed away a few months later.

I have always felt cheated not ever knowing my grandfather, but I have been left with many memories from what my father, your son, shared with me. Thanks bunches for my wonderful father.
