Joe Miner, as recorded in his family autobiography, was "a career Military man retiring from the U. S. Air Forces on 1 July 1967. He served in enlisted and commissioned grades. He is now a Captain on the Retired List".

Joe was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. His retirement activities included an extensive study of the Miner family which resulted in a thorough book that he bestowed upon his relatives at no cost. His work inspired several of us to continue genealogy studies. Joe was a hero and a fine man. He and his wife, Ethel Mae Coryell of Allerton, Illinois, were the parents of Joan Marie Miner (Wood) and Janet Irene Miner (Richard). He was the grandfather of Jeffrey Wood, Steven Wood, Todd Richard and Jeremy Richard.
