Taught music and physical education at Miller High School in Detroit Michigan. Retired. Moved to Lincoln then Oscoda Michigan. Played the piano, church organ and was choir director at Oscoda Methodist Church for many years. OSCODA - Bernice M. (Mrs. Darwin) Wagoner, 86, of Oscoda, died Wednesday, June 1 at Iosco Medical Care Facility in Tawas City.
Born August 23, 1901, in Alma, Bernice Raycraft received her bachelor at arts degree from Eastern Michigan University and her master of arts degree from the University of Detroit. Later she was a teacher for more than 30 years in the Detroit, Alcona and Oscoda school systems.
Her husband, Dr. Darwin E. Wagoner, preceded her in death September 1, 1976.
An Oscoda resident since 1953, Mrs. Wagoner was the choir director at Oscoda United Methodist Church, Lincoln Methodist Church, the Wurtsmith Air Force Base Officer's Wives Club and previously at the Grace Methodist Church in Detroit. She also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lincoln Chapter 509.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Mrs. William) Kutsche of Oscoda, Carol Wagner of Bryan, Ohio, a son, Alan of Springville, Utah, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Raycraft of Alma, and a sister, Doris Pray of Oscoda.
A memorial service was conducted Friday evening by the Order of Eastern Star at the Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral was Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Oscoda Methodist Church, Dr. Richard MacOnon officiating, burial followed in Twin Lakes Cemetery, Lincoln.
