Actress, Author. Born Dulcie Winifred Catherine Bailey (also known as Dulcie Savage), the daughter of an attorney, she was sent to boarding school in England and would later return to Malaysia to teach. Following her father's death, she moved back to Britain, initially focusing on becoming a dancer, her interests would shift to acting, which led to her training at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and during her time there, she met actor Michael Denison whom she married in 1939 (remaining with him until his death in 1998). Gray established herself a viable stage presence, as she appeared on London's West End (often with Denison) in the productions of "The Little Foxes" and "Brighton Rock." She launched what would become a successful association with Gainsborough Pictures, beginning with "Madonna of the Seven Moons" (1945), also including her breakthrough film "They Were Sisters" (1945), as she specialized in portraying refined and respectable ladies. An enthusiasm in writing opened the door to a second occupation as a novelist, starting with "Murder On the Stairs" (1957), she penned roughly 30 mystery-based books during a 30 year period. Gray would later become familiar to British TV audiences for playing Kate Harvey in the series "Howard's Way" (1985 to 1990).
