| Birth: | Apr. 6, 1866 | | Death: | May 31, 1931 |  Canadian religious leader and Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Nineteenth bishop and ninth archbishop of Québec. A native of L'Isle-Verte (Québec) He studied first at the seminary of Rimouski. He joined the Order of Preachers (Dominican Fathers), on December 8, 1886, in Saint-Hyacinthe, made his first vows, on August 3, 1888 and his final vows, on August 4, 1891. The bishop of Ajaccio ordained him priest, on July 31, 1892, in the Corsican town of Corte (France). He served as a Faculty member of the Dominican Scholastic College, in Ottawa, from 1892 to 1919 and as his prior, from l900 to l9O9. He was elected Provincial of the Dominicans in Canada in 1919 and acted in this capacity until 1923. On May 22, 1923, he was consecrated second bishop of Valleyfied. Three years later, on July 9, 1926, he was promoted to the metropolitan see of Québec. Pope Pius XI created him cardinal priest, on December 19, 1927. He died in function in his episcopal city.
