He was ordained a Priest of Quebec on September 18, 1734, appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Quebec on January 22, 1772, ordained Bishop Coadjutor Bishop of Quebec on July 12, 1772, and succeeded Bishop of Quebec on December 2, 1784. He died on June 4, 1788, while still the Bishop of Quebec.
