Born in St. Catharine's, Ontario, Canada, he served as a Lance Corporal in the 13th Battalion, Royal Highlanders, Canadian Expeditionary Forces. On April 22, 1915, in the 2nd Battle of Ypres, Belgium, Lance Corporal Fisher went forward with the machine gun he was in charge of under heavy fire and assisted in covering the retreat of a battery. The following day he discovered two 18-pounder field guns in danger of being overrun by attacking German infantry. He brought his machine gun into action and with the help of six other soldiers, held the enemy off until the field guns could be withdrawn. Later the same day he was killed while providing cover fire for advancing troops during another attempt to move forward. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on June 23, 1915. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
