Aberdeen City, Scotland
Death: Oct. 29, 1914

World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. The son of Sir Harry Vasey Brooke KBE, he served as a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, British Army. In actions near Gheluvelt, Belgium, on October 29, 1914, the 2nd Battalion, was trying to prevent a German breakthrough. They were not in a position to counter-attack, when Lieutenant Brooke lead two attacks on the enemy under concentrated rifle and machine-gun fire, to regain a lost trench. Having regained the trench he went back to gain more support troops when he was shot and killed. For most prestigious gallantry, he was posthumously promoted Captain and awarded the Victoria Cross on February 18, 1915. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
