World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in in Newmills, County Tyrone, Ireland, he served as a Private in the 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers, British Army. At Messines, Belgium, the 1st Battalion were in the trenches when they came under heavy German artillery fire. Private Morrow rescued and carried to safety several men who had been buried in the debris of trenches wrecked by shell fire. He then carried out this work on his own initiative and under heavy fire from the enemy. Two weeks later he was killed in actions at St. Jan, Belgium. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross presented by King George V to his mother at Buckingham Palace on May 22, 1915.
